| David gazed at his friend a moment longer, then stood and walked to the window. He stared through the glass in distant thought. Somewhere in his mind he knew they would surrender, and that moment was before him now. He felt his destiny cast on a breeze and found it bore no guilt, for that had evaporated in the warmth of a lover’s gaze. He turned and his eyes fell across shoulders and chest, masculine contours that quickened the heart.
